Embark on an unforgettable Moroccan adventure, beginning in the vibrant city of Marrakesh, where you'll explore the tiny streets of the bustling medina, majestic Koutoubia Mosque and the hidden Menara gardens.

Traverse the stunning landscapes of the Middle and High Atlas Mountains, visiting tiny Amazigh villages, before moving into the Agafay desert landscape of canyons, dunes, ridges and gorges, where you will live like a Nomad, sleeping under the stars for your last evening in Morocco.

About your adventure

This jam-packed itinerary is perfect for giving you a first taste of Morocco; it’s a well-balanced blend of adventure, cultural immersion and experiential learning beyond the classroom. Whether you are a budding geographer looking to observe and engage with diverse and ever-changing physical landscapes, or simply looking to experience a new, unfamiliar culture, this trip will explore the interactions between people and their environment by visiting Morocco’s traditional Amazigh (Berber) villages and rapidly modernising city of Marrakech.

Study Tour Itinerary

Day 1-2


Explore Marrakesh

Arrive in the incredible city of Marrakesh. After a restful first night’s sleep, you will wake up refreshed, ready to be guided through the heart of the city.

Religion is central to Moroccan life and is reflected in the country's mosques, festivals, prayers, and traditions. You will experience this first-hand as you explore cultural landmarks, including the Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace, Merdersa Ben Youssef, the Water Museum and the stunning Menara Gardens. Prepare yourself for the tiny winding streets of the busy Medina, this is a treat for the senses as you stop to admire incredible artisan crafts - all adding to Morocco’s unique sense of place through distinctive colours. Soak up the electric atmosphere in Jemaa el Fna Square and look out for the Cobras! After a busy day, settle into your accommodation and get a good night’s rest.

Day 3


Marrakesh - Imlil

After breakfast, you will head out of Marrakesh, Today, we leave the city behind and journey south toward the dramatic peaks and valleys of the Toubkal Massif, crossing the Haouz Plain and passing through the small town of Asni. As the road begins to climb into the Atlas Mountains, the Oued Rhirhaia Valley begins to stretch into the distance, dotted with small villages perched on steep hillsides. You will continue toward Imlil, a picturesque mountain village at 1,740 meters, where you will begin your trek through the Mizane Valley toward Aremd, the largest village in the area.

Situated at 1,900 meters, Aremd is a charming blend of traditional terraced farming, guesthouses, and lively streets where goats and cattle roam freely. For generations, Berber villagers here have cultivated corn, potatoes, and walnuts in this rugged landscape.

Day 4


Imlil village life - Agafay desert camp

Start your day with a true immersion into local life, joining the community in meaningful daily tasks: help build traditional adobe houses, work the land, join in the harvest, collect fresh water from the main spring, weave vibrant carpets alongside skilled artisans, or gather flour from the age-old water mill. After a rewarding morning, enjoy lunch in the picturesque village of Imlil.

Then, continue with a scenic transfer to Agafay, where you’ll unwind and spend the night under the stars in the stunning, tranquil desert landscape. This is an unforgettable evening under the starry sky of the Sahara Desert.

Day 5


Depart

After breakfast and a final glimpse of the desert, transfer to Marrakech airport, concluding your unforgettable Moroccan adventure.

Once you’ve booked your project you will be sent a kit list specifically for your trip. You will also receive further information about the adventure itself and the daily activities as well as further detail about what you can expect to learn. VACCINATIONS

For this particular trip, please see details below.

Please check with your local GP to find out which vaccinations you require for any adventure that you decide to book. These are a guide; a full consultation is necessary to establish individual risk and suitability of vaccines. There may be instances where more than one appointment is required to assess whether a vaccine can be offered.

Recommended vaccinations:
Tetanus, Typhoid, Hepatitis A

Vaccinations to be considered:
Hepatitis B, Polio, Rabies, Tuberculosis (TB)

INSURANCE

Please check if your school/college provides insurance and if not we will require your policy number and details 8 weeks before departure. Flooglebinder has public liability cover of £5million but participants must arrange their own travel insurance for all other levels of cover (e.g. cancellation, curtailment, loss of personal belongings etc.). Please feel free to contact us for any advice or recommendation.
