Flooglebinder is very proud to be part of Business Declares and the fast-growing network of businesses who acknowledge the Climate and Ecological Emergency, supporting the global climate strike.

Since our inception in 2012, conservation has always been at the heart of what we do, protecting vulnerable habitats and threatened species. Flooglebinder, were the UK’s first tour operator and travel company to become a Certified B Corporation in 2016, as a result of their personal values and always having social and environmental issues at the forefront of their business.

Flooglebinder continues to work on raising awareness for climate action and constantly takes additional steps towards sustainable and responsible business practices.

Brad Frankel, Co-Founder of Flooglebinder said:

“Building a sustainable tourism model helps us to measure success through people and planet as opposed to profit and enables us to protect the places we love for future generations. Business plays a huge role in tackling the climate emergency and in an industry that has a short term negative impact through flying, we need to redefine the way that we travel to benefit from the long term and net positive gain. Being the first in the UK was extremely important to us to show that through innovation and determination it can be done and to set a standard for the rest of the sector.”

The carbon neutral journey started in 2014 with the Woodland Carbon Trust and since then we have worked with Climate Care and One Carbon World to measure our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.

Achieving both the Carbon Neutral International Standard and joining the UN Climate Neutral Now Initiative, the company aims to lead the travel industry and its peers toward sustainable industry standards. By calculating the carbon footprint of each trip and offsetting it by 120%, the company ensures that every trip is ‘climate positive’.

Andrew Bowen, Chief Executive Officer of One Carbon World said:

“We are thrilled to announce that Flooglebinder has achieved both the Carbon Neutral International Standard and the UN Climate Neutral Now Initiative participation, which clearly shows how strongly they are committed to sustainability. Every emission Flooglebinder has offset directly supports the UN and verified voluntary reforestation projects around the world.”

According to UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organisation) 1.5 billion tourists were reported in 2019, confirming that it is a leading sector and will bounce back after lockdown. Therefore, the importance of offering sustainable travel opportunities is crucial.

Ian Taylor,Co-Founder of Flooglebinder said:

“As a company we constantly face new challenges and we never rest at what is the current standard. We know that we can still do more and will continue to look at new ways to adapt and change to ensure that we can use business as a force for good. The beauty of travel is that we can touch on so many, if not all, of the UN SDG’s. The curriculum that we’ve developed for our student trips allows us to educate people on not only the right way to travel but to become aware of their social and environmental impact long after they are home.”
