Safeguarding: Our Promise to Protect

When we talk about safeguarding at Flooglebinder, we’re not just referring to policies or checklists, we’re talking about people.

People are at the heart of everything we do. From the moment a young person signs up for a trip, to the final group photo on a beach or mountaintop, we’re thinking about how to keep everyone safe, supported, and seen. It’s not just about avoiding risk, it’s about creating an environment where people can grow, push themselves, and feel confident knowing they’re in good hands.

We work with young people across the world, often in unfamiliar environments. That’s why safeguarding isn’t something we ever leave to chance.

What Safeguarding Means to Us

It means every student has access to support, and knows exactly who to turn to if something doesn’t feel right. It means our team are fully trained in child protection, mental health first aid, and conflict resolution and that we’re always improving that training as the world changes.

We carry out risk assessments before every trip, and build in clear structures so leaders can adapt quickly if something unexpected happens. We also think about inclusion and making sure no one feels left out, lost, or unheard.

We don’t want to create bubble-wrapping experiences, it’s more about creating safe boundaries so that the adventure can really come alive knowing we’ve done the work behind the scenes to make it all possible.

Meet the Team Behind the Protection

Rob W

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead. Rob oversees all our safeguarding protocols and training. He’s the one who ensures we’re not just compliant, but thoughtful, proactive, and always student-first.

Ian

Our Deputy Safeguarding Lead, and co-founder of Flooglebinder. With decades of experience working with young people in the field, Ian brings grounded, level-headed leadership to every trip and helps guide our policy as well as our people.

Andraea (Dray)

Coordinator of People. Dray makes sure that every team member has the right checks in place, including Enhanced DBS certificates and up-to-date safeguarding training. She also looks after onboarding and wellbeing, because safeguarding is about our staff too.

We’re proud of the systems we have in place. But more than that, we’re proud of the culture we’ve built, one where care, trust, and accountability are part of everyday life on our programmes.
