Why did you choose Nicaragua?
Because the number of Sustainable Development Goals we can cover in just one trip.
What is so special about the projects you’re involved with?
Like all of our projects they’re all local NGO’s and so diverse, from turtle conservation to chocolate and coffee farms. These are small stakeholders that are showing the world how we can ‘co-exist’ sustainably.
How did you ensure that everything on the trip relates back to your content pillars: sustainability, conservation, personal development and mental health?
The initial attraction to Nicaragua was the turtle project and we’re planning to build a turtle hatchery out there soon, so the conservation areas were covered. The sustainability aspect on this trip is a little different as whilst the entire trip is carbon positive and all providers and activities are carefully chosen due to their sustainability credentials, this trip involves much more ‘real world’ case studies. Therefore,it’s not just the trip that’s sustainable but the activities and visits themselves look at agriculture, energy, infrastructure, wildlife and climate action.
As always just being in these places does so much for us, physically and mentally, and we’ll add in soe runs, some yoga and some workshops to give people the space to learn and reflect.
Who are the people behind the trip to Nicaragua that make this all happen?
We met one of the local NGO’s a few years ago at the World Travel Market by chance and just loved everything about them. You could see their passion for marine, specifically turtle, conservation and it was these shared values and their energy that attracted us. Without them it wouldn’t be possible.
What part of the trip are you most looking forward to?
After the last 12months we’ve had, I’m looking forward to getting out to the coast and enjoying some surf and a few beers, watching the sunset!
