Sri Lanka Group Trip fo Solo Travellers

A brief insight into the brand new Sri Lankan adventure launched by Flooglebinder this week – 60 seconds to be exact ;)

  • Why did you choose Sri Lanka?

Because we heard about a really cool elephant project!

  • What is so special about the projects you’re involved with?

How they’re looking at sustainable solutions for co-existence, in this case…Project Orange. Asian elephants don’t like citrus, so we’re planting orange trees to create natural corridors that protect the farmers (and their families), the elephants and provide an alternative cash crop – it’s a win win win.

  • How did you ensure that everything on the trip relates back to your content pillars: sustainability, conservation, personal development and mental health?

The conservation aspect is always the hardest as we need to ensure that the project is a good one. Unfortunately, there are so many that are simply tourist traps and thinking about their pockets as opposed to the species they’re ‘apparently’ representing.

The sustainability aspect for us is easy, as being a B Corp, every decision we make always relates back to the social and environmental impacts.

The travel elements help the wellness elements, simply by surrounding yourself in nature and going on a physical journey, you go on a personal journey.

  • Who are the people behind the trip to Sri Lanka that make this all happen?

For us it’s all about the local community, which is why all of our trips are so focused on being immersed in local culture and getting involved with grassroot projects. It’s the locals that make these trips so special!

  • Where was your favourite experience?

It’s really hard to pick one moment because I love so many different aspects of it, from learning about tea production to the mangrove tours, the ancient temples and of course, seeing elephants in the wild, that’s pretty epic. With all that in mind, I guess it has to be the end spot: sitting on the beach in Mirissa with a beer in hand and feet in the sand, reflecting on all the good stuff that’s happened.
