Traverse the stunning landscapes of the Middle and High Atlas Mountains, visit the enchanting desert dunes of Merzouga, and immerse yourself in the rich Berber heritage of Tinghir and Boutaghrar. Discover the cinematic allure of Ouarzazate and the iconic Ait Benhaddou, before unwinding in the picturesque coastal town of Essaouira. Culture and Heritage Itinerary

Day 1


Arrive into Casablanca

Arrive in Casablanca, the country's economic capital, home to beautiful palm-lined paths and views of the Atlantic Ocean. Visit the Ain Diab Corniche, a lively boulevard with restaurants and swimming pools. Then, see the impressive Hassan II Mosque, the largest in Morocco and the third largest in the world. This architectural landmark, situated on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic, includes a unique glass floor that offers a view of the ocean below.

Day 2


Casablanca to Fes via Rabat and Meknes

Leave Casablanca for Rabat, the nation's capital. Here, explore the Royal Palace and the Hassan Tower, a minaret of an incomplete mosque, standing as a symbol of the city. Visit the mausoleum of Mohammed V and wander through the Andalusian Garden in the Kasbah of the Oudaias. Head towards Fes, we’ll stop in Meknes, a city with a rich imperial past.

Discover the fascinating gate of Bab Mansour, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, and the historic Place el Hedim. Visit the holy city of Moulay Idriss and the ancient Roman-Berber city of Volubilis, renowned for its well-preserved ruins. Finally, we arrive in the Imperial city of Fes, where your jam-packed day concludes.

Day 3


Explore Fes and Journey to Midelt

Fes, a city teeming with history, offers a wealth of architectural and cultural treasures. Visit the ninth-century Karouine University, marvel at the exquisite mosaics and woodwork of Medersa Bou Ananiya, and explore the famous medina, one of the largest in the world.

In the afternoon, we depart from Fes and travel through the dramatic landscapes of the Middle Atlas. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the cedar forests and the chance to see wild monkeys along the way. We pass through Ifrane and Azrou, experiencing the unique Berber culture, before arriving in Midelt for the night.

Day 4


Adventure in Merzouga

Leaving Midelt, ascend the High Atlas Mountains, navigating the Tizi N’Talghemt pass. Our journey continues through the Gorge du Ziz to Er Rachidia and the Ziz Valley, dotted with palm trees and fortified Berber villages. Arriving in Erfoud, known for its ancient fossils, delve into the heart of the desert.

In Merzouga, at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes, embark on a trek or camel ride to discover the serene beauty of the desert. As the day ends, enjoy a traditional meal and entertainment by the campfire at our Bedouin tent camp nestled among the dunes.

Day 5


From Merzouga to Boutaghrar

Wake early to witness the mesmerising sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast in camp, we return to Merzouga by 4x4 and journey towards Tinejdad. Visit the Oasis Berber Museum of Khorbat and enjoy tea within the Kasbah.

Continue to the picturesque valley of Tinghir and Todra Gorge, a lush oasis with dramatic rock formations. Follow the road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the stunning Dades Valley, known for its unique landscapes and rock formations, before ending the day in the village of Boutaghrar.

Day 6


Boutaghrar to Marrakech

After breakfast, engage with local Berber communities and explore the beautiful Valley of Roses, famous for its rose gardens and adobe villages. Proceed to Skoura, known for its lush date palm groves, and take a walk through this natural paradise.

In the afternoon, visit Ouarzazate, the 'Hollywood of Morocco,' and explore its famous Cinema Studios. Our day culminates at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou, a well-preserved ksar used as a backdrop in many famous films. Traverse the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’ Tichka pass, arriving in Marrakech by late afternoon.

Day 7


Visit Essaouira

Descending towards the Atlantic coast, arrive in Essaouira, one of Morocco's most picturesque towns. Known for its narrow alleys, delicious seafood, and vibrant craft shops, Essaouira offers a unique coastal experience.

Explore the old medina, Jewish Mellah, port, and Skala (sea wall), and witness a stunning sunset over the beach.

Day 8


Journey to Ait Zitoune

Leaving Essaouira, we journey to Ait Zitoune. Along the way, visit the Dam of Lalla Takerkoust and the bustling market of Amezmiz town. Upon arrival in Ait Zitoune, explore the traditional agriculture and market town, engage with local farmers, and visit a local olive oil cooperative. Return to Marrakech in the late afternoon.

Day 9


Depart

On your final day, transfer to Marrakech airport, concluding your unforgettable Moroccan adventure.

Once you’ve booked your project you will be sent a kit list specifically for your trip. You will also receive further information about the adventure itself and the daily activities as well as further detail about what you can expect to learn. VACCINATIONS

For this particular trip, please see details below.

Please check with your local GP to find out which vaccinations you require for any adventure that you decide to book. These are a guide; a full consultation is necessary to establish individual risk and suitability of vaccines. There may be instances where more than one appointment is required to assess whether a vaccine can be offered.

Tetanus, Typhoid, Hepatitis A

Hepatitis B, Polio, Rabies, Tuberculosis (TB)

INSURANCE

Please check if your school/college provides insurance and if not we will require your policy number and details 8 weeks before departure. Flooglebinder has public liability cover of £5million but participants must arrange their own travel insurance for all other levels of cover (e.g. cancellation, curtailment, loss of personal belongings etc.). Please feel free to contact us for any advice or recommendation.
